EARLY COMMUNION REQUIREMENTS

  • - The Ten Commandments (Excluding Meanings)

    - The Apostles’ Creed (Excluding Meanings)

    - The Lord’s Prayer (Excluding Meanings)

    - The Words of Institution

  • This class is open to those children who have demonstrated their memorization of the material listed in “Requirement 1.” Participation in this class is also subject to previous faithful attendance at the Divine Service. This determination will be made by the Pastors on a case-by-case basis.

  • The Catechumen will be examined by a pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church. The pastor will evaluate the Catechumen’s readiness to commune according to the following:

    - Can the Catechumen recite the required memory passages?

    - Does the Catechumen recognize his sinfulness?

    - Is the Catechumen repentant?

    - Does the Catechumen confess the Triune God?

    - Does the Catechumen trust in Jesus alone for salvation?

    - Does the Catechumen confess that the bread and wine in the Sacrament are the body and blood of Jesus?

    - Does the Catechumen know the benefits of the Sacrament?

    - Does the Catechumen intend to come to the Sacrament frequently?

    - Does the Catechumen intend remain faithful in prayer?

    - Does the Catechumen intend to continue as a student and disciple in this congregation?
