J.S. Bach Academy of Music

This August, Bethany is launching the J.S. Bach Academy of Music (The Bach Academy) as the community extension of our commitment to excellence in music education.  The Bach Academy will offer private and group lessons with some of the best instrumental and vocal instructors in the Chicagoland area, many of whom have advanced degrees from prestigious institutions such as the Manhattan School of Music and Northwestern University. Additionally, The Bach Academy will be home to a comprehensive Early Childhood Music Education Program, introducing children as young as 6 months, and their parents, to music in a fun and interactive setting.

The Bach Academy will also be home to the Bethany Lutheran Schola Cantorum, a choir school in the English tradition (think King's College Lessons & Carols).  This fascinating program offers a tuition-free, comprehensive education to children and youth from Kindergarten through 12th grade.   The purpose of the Bethany Lutheran Schola Cantorum is multi-faceted:

  • To form servant-leaders: The program fosters vital life skills for children and youth through the gift of music.  Choristers are taught the value of community, commitment, self-discipline, service, leadership, time management, and many other skills in a fun, uplifting, and Christ-centered environment.  The skills that choristers develop last a lifetime and foster growth in other areas of life at a young age.
  • To teach a comprehensive music education: Beginning with the fundamentals and progressing through advanced levels, choristers receive a thorough education in music theory, sight-singing, and vocal production.

  • Faith Formation*: The life of a chorister revolves around the worship of the church.  Throughout the program they learn about liturgy, universal doctrines of the Christian Church (i.e. The Ten Commandments, The Lord’s Prayer, and the Apostles’ Creed), and the value of service to our neighbor.

* Choristers do not need to be members of Bethany Lutheran Church.  All are welcome, regardless of faith tradition.

Finally, The Bach Academy is proud to present the Naperville Youth Symphony Orchestra (NYSO), under the direction of Mrs. Kimberlie Richter.  This very exciting program will expose youth to a broad range of exciting repertoire, forming their skills as musicians through ensemble playing with excellence.
